The largest resort town in Jamaica is Negril which extends across two parishes. If you are searching for Negril on the map, it is located on the western side on the island of Jamaica. This is town is so blessed that it occupies space in two parishes, Westmoreland and Hanover. The town of Negril is not very big and the nearest town with a significantly larger size is the capital of Westmoreland, Savanna-la-mar. The northern section of this town is located in Hanover; this has some of the resort hotels. Westmoreland includes the West End, the downtown area and the southern section of the seven mile beach.

The southern part of Negril beach area, has a number of hotels in Negril that are owned by families both local and foreigners. These are smaller in size to the larger resorts that are available in this town. The larger all-inclusive hotels occupy the northern section of the beach. This adds to the popularity of the beach as it is rated among the ten best beaches worldwide and this mixture of hotel accommodations adds more variety with their ability to give better options for services, rooms and pricing.

The West End area which is south of the downtown area is popularly called the “cliff” area. For the true adventurer this is the place for you as you get to jump off the cliffs from high above and also enjoying some diving and snorkeling. If you want the seclusion from the resort hotels on the other side of town, this is the place to be as there are a number of small hotels that are more private.

There is no other place on the island that has the features that Negril is famous for; adding to the casualness, there is the blend of miles of white sand beach with its sparkling water and the extraordinary West End with its alluring cliffs. Hotel Negril had gotten so much exposure from visitors all over the world that it was not a surprise to see persons featuring this town in novels, songs and movies. There was a novel titled “The Man with the Golden Gun” that was written by the famous Ian Fleming. There was a television series called “The Girls Next Door” in which they highlighted a wedding ceremony being held at the Sandals hotel. One exposure which still catches the attention of persons planning a vacation is the song “Little Cottage in Negril”.

The popular spring break holiday that U.S. college students take yearly is celebrated in the Negril town. They gravitate to this area because of the same laidback and carefree atmosphere as they get to enjoy their holiday.
